Georges Senga

Georges Senga is a photographer who is currently a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. His work deals with identity, heritage, and history, which he connects to the idea of ‘memory’ – the memory of who we are, what we have and where we come from. In 2017, Georges Senga took a series of photographs of old Volkswagen transporter vans in Congo, in response to the emissions scandal surrounding the manipulation of the exhaust from Volkswagen cars. He will produce a new series of photographs in the spring of 2019, on the abandoned mining sites and factories of Gecamines, the biggest mining company in Katanga that is currently nearly bankrupt.
